James Hallmark lives in College Station, TX where he serves as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs for the Texas A&M University System and attends the A&M Church of Christ where he teaches classes, is involved in campus ministry (Aggies for Christ), and occasionally leads the worship service. James has been married to Becky Hallmark since 1989 and they have one daughter who is married and living in Austin. Becky is engaged in volunteer work in the community and mentoring college students after 18 years of working in campus ministry. For fun, James enjoys reading, singing with the Brazos Valley Chorale and Chamber Singers (and occasionally other choirs in the area) and takes pride that his yard and flower beds are always the best on the block.

Karlie Marr is a graduate of Texas A&M University where she earned a BA in Marketing and an MS in Data Analytics. After graduation, she began her career in Consumer Product Goods, working at Kraft Heinz, in Account Sales for H-E-B. She currently works for Lactalis Heritage Dairy, analyzing shopper data for grocers including Kroger and Albertsons. She lives in San Antonio, Texas with her husband Tyler Marr, and their cat Scout. They currently attend MacArthur Park Church of Christ. She has a passion for children and currently serves in the High School ministry at her church. In her free time, she loves traveling, cooking, and coming back to Kyle Field to watch the Aggies win. Karlie joined the PHA board in 2023.

Carolyn Hutson graduated from Texas A&M University in 1984 with an MS in Accounting. She spent twelve years in public accounting, specializing in auditing. She retired as EVP-CFO of Brookshire Grocery Company after a career spanning twenty years with that company. She has served on several boards, including Brookshire Holdings Inc, Goodwill of East Texas, Literacy Council of Tyler, and the Business Advisory Board for UT Tyler. She and her husband, Joel, are active members of Marvin United Methodist Church where she has served as Administrative Council, Finance and Women’s Ministry chairs. She and Joel also both serve as CASA volunteers. She and her husband enjoy having their two sons, wives, and grandson living close by in Tyler.

Kristen is currently working remotely as a stewardship consultant for Marvin Methodist Church. She is a graduate of Vanderbilt University with a degree in European History and has a Master’s in Art History from Rice University. Kristen worked for the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston in the development office and later the curatorial department. She has worked in various fundraising and writing roles for the Blanton Museum at The University of Texas, as well as DePelchin Children’s Center and Texas Children’s Hospital. Kristen and her husband, Michael, have been married for 28 years and have two adult sons and one nutty Goldendoodle. She loves reading, travel and boating.

Betsy Brush has spent her career working toward shared goals that serve the greater good, with leadership experience spanning nonprofit organizations, higher education, and international consulting. Having lived and worked throughout Europe—including Central and Eastern Europe—she gained a life-changing perspective that helped clarify her faith, values, and understanding of truth beyond cultural, geographic, and political frameworks.

Raised in East Texas, Betsy credits her upbringing with instilling resilience, service, and a deep sense of responsibility—qualities that have been tested and strengthened throughout her professional and personal life. She has led teams, built organizations, and supported mission-driven work both in the U.S. and abroad, always with a focus on people, purpose, and long-term impact.

Betsy finds great joy in serving alongside others who are united by faith and a desire to make a meaningful difference. She is honored to support the mission of Program for Humanitarian Aid and contribute in whatever way she can to its important work in Ukraine.

Tom Carey lives in Heath, Texas and joined the PHA Board in 2018. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Abilene Christian University in criminal justice and retired after serving thirty-five years with the Dallas Police Department. He is happily married to Linda and has four children and nine grandchildren. He currently attends Eastridge Church of Christ in Rockwall, TX. 2019 was his sixth trip to Ukraine to work in summer camps.

Margaret Gentry is a graduate of Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, Texas Tech University with an MS in Microbiology, and TTUHSC with an MD. She completed her residency in Psychiatry at TTUHSC as well. She worked for Texas Tech as a psychiatrist in several areas, maintained a private practice in Birmingham, Alabama, and for the past twenty years has worked at Terrell State Hospital as a psychiatrist. She retired on December 31, 2025. Margaret has been married to Bob Gentry, a retired BSN, for 27 years, and they have six adult children in a blended family. They have 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. They currently attend Eastridge Church of Christ in Rockwall, Texas. They have participated in several mission fields in the past. In her free time, Margaret enjoys reading, gardening, and making miniature dioramas. She loves spending time with all those grands and great grands.

Bob Martin is minister for North Main Church of Christ in Winters, Texas. He earned his degree in concentrated Biblical studies through Brown Trail School of Preaching in Hurst, Texas. Bob is known to be a good leader and organizer, having been involved in numerous community clubs and organizations and youth camps. His passion is working with and for children. He and his wife Jenny have been married 43 years and have three married children and 6 grandchildren.

Ann received her Master’s degree in English, with a specialization in Technical and Professional Communication from New Mexico State University, and holds a Paralegal Certificate from George Mason University. She served as an editor for an archeological firm and became a grant writer and administrator for a federally funded initiative. This involved overseeing a court-centered program for adults and youth who had entered the justice system as a result of alcohol and/or drug-related issues and grew into a successful, nationwide Drug Court Program.  She contracted with the Office of Justice Programs to review grant proposals and evaluate ongoing programs throughout the western and southwestern United States, serving as a facilitator for workshops and speaking regarding these programs at the state and federal levels. Additionally, Ann was Development Director for a Critical Access hospital in New Mexico and later served as the Finance Committee Chair and Vice President of their Governing Board.  She was also elected to her local School Board and served as its President during her last term. Ann has two children and four grandchildren.  She is married to Paul Monagan who, before he retired, served as the Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences at Tyler Community College.  They currently live in Tyler, Texas, where they attend and participate in activities at Marvin Methodist Church. 

Stephen is Vice President and Partner at an independent insurance firm in Richardson, TX, where he specializes in building risk management portfolios for businesses globally. Married to his wife Courtney for 21 years, they have two sons. In his free time, Stephen enjoys coaching, teaching, staying active with health and fitness, spending time outdoors, and taking family vacations. He is a proud graduate of William Jewell College.

Garry Steinbach graduated from Henderson High School in 1972 and from Kilgore Junior College in 1974 with a degree in business. He was a partial owner of a tire store in Henderson, Texas, before moving back to Tyler where he began a career in outside sales with a water utility supply company, developing a previously nonexistent territory into a multimillion-dollar territory. In retirement, Garry is looking forward to dedicating more time to serving others. He has been involved with the Historic Society of Tyler and the Gold Network of Tyler, which supports families of children with cancer, and is also active in the Rotary Club of Tyler. Garry is proud to serve on the PHA Board of Directors.

Dr. David Vanderpool was born in Dallas, graduated from Abilene Christian College in 1952 and receive his M.D. from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1956. After completing his service in the United States Air Force as Chief of Surgery at the 3320th USAF Hospital, Amarillo AFB, Texas he returned to Dallas to practice Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center for fifty-five years. He married Margie Martin in 1955 and they have one son, David, who is also a Surgeon and currently is doing full time mission work in Haiti. Margie and David began working in Romania, in the former Soviet Union, in 1996, and in the former East Germany and in Ukraine in 2006, joining PHA in 2007. They have made annual and semiannual trips to Ukraine from 2006 until 2013.

Marjorie Martin Vanderpool is a Dallas native and Graduate from the Hockaday School and SMU with degrees in Psychology and Sociology. She also did graduate work at Texas University at Austin. She has been actively involved in the Dallas County Medical Society Alliance for many years having served as President in 1989. She has served on the PHA Board for about ten years and has enjoyed many trips to Ukraine. She has been active in orphan care at Korlavka, helping provide new beds, better windows in the dormitory to keep the cold out, coal for heat in the winter, playground equipment, Christians to spend time with the children daily, and more and better food.
